Description
Circa Mid 1980's to Late 1980's
Use Case:
Designed to allow APPLE IIe users to connect to a wider variety of non-APPLE printers that used a standard parallel interface, common in enterprise or business environments. This enabled features like:
- Advanced Formatting: The ability to place text, images, and graphics at any point on the page, known as all points addressability (APA), which was a significant improvement over traditional line-mode printing.
- Resource Management: Utilizing predefined resources such as electronic forms (overlays), logos, various fonts, and barcodes stored within the printer or system to create complex documents like invoices and statements.
- High-Volume Printing: AFP was designed for efficient, high-volume production printing in environments like banking and insurance companies, allowing Apple IIe systems in those environments to integrate with robust printing solutions.
