 A useful list of terms and language used throughout this site


Breakdown & Distress

Techniques that simulate wear and tear on props—either temporary or permanent.  Note: Permanent treatments are prohibited on rentals. Temporary ones must be fully removed before return to avoid fees.



Custom Prop

A prop built to client specifications.



Custom Rental

An existing rental prop modified by Propology to meet client needs.



Deposit Cheque

A production-issued cheque covering the full replacement value of rented items. Must be provided at or before pickup.



Graphical Treatments

Self-adhesive graphic elements applied to props (e.g., vinyl logos, labels, accent colors).  Note: Only removable treatments allowed. Permanent alterations incur restoration/replacement fees.



Greeked / Greeking / Greeked-Out

Modifying or removing brand names/logos for filming. Note:  Use only reversible methods.

Permanent changes will result in fees.


Inert

A device with no explosive or hazardous properties; legally safe for use (applies to simulated explosives).



Loss & Damage

Charges applied when rental items are lost or returned damaged.


  • Total Loss: Billed at full replacement value.
  • Damage Fees: Assessed for repair or restoration.



ND (Non-Descript)

Describes a custom prop with ambiguous functionality—adaptable to various scripted uses (e.g., scanners, meters, emitters).


Replica

A visually accurate reproduction of a known item, typically with limited simulated functions.


Show & Tell

Short-term no-charge prop loan for production evaluation.



Simulated

Designed to convincingly mimic real function without actually performing it.



Swamper

A production crew member skilled in the professional loading, transporting and handling of props.



Technical Prop

A prop or device meant to portray a scientific or technical function.
