Description
Circa 1987
The AUDIOVOX PC100 is a portable analog cellular telephone, a re-branded version of the revolutionary TECHNOPHONE PC105T. It was touted as the first mobile phone small and light enough to fit comfortably in a pocket.
Use Case:
Designed for personal, untethered voice communication while mobile, a stark contrast to the car-mounted or large "bag phones" that were standard at the time. It operated on the AMPS 800 network standard in the US. The phone featured a backlit display, auto-dialing, and a speakerphone.
Historical Significance:
A landmark device in telecommunications history because it was the world's first pocket-sized cell phone, revolutionizing the industry by introducing a truly portable form factor. Before this phone, mobile telephony was dominated by heavier car phones. Its existence proved that a powerful, handheld cellular device was possible, paving the way for the smaller, more compact phones of the 1990s and beyond.
Included Accessories:
- Detachable Antenna
- Fitted Leather Case.
