Use Case

Designed to provide professional-quality typing in a compact, lightweight, and often cordless form factor. Its primary use was for creating clear, easy-to-read documents and attractive correspondence. Key features for its target use included:

  • Portability: The machine could be used in various locations like a home, office, or car, as it could operate on four D-cell batteries or an optional AC adapter.

  • Text Memory: A memory feature allowed users to compose, store, and correct text before it was printed onto the paper, which was an advancement over traditional manual typewriters.

  • Thermal Printing: It used a thermal print head, allowing it to print on standard paper with an ink cartridge or on cheaper thermal fax paper without ink.

  • Typestyle Options: Users could customize their documents with various fonts by using optional, interchangeable typestyle cartridges.

Included Accessories:

  • CANON Typestar 6 Carrying Case

  • CANON IR-50 Thermal Ribbon Cartridges—BLACK (x1) RED ( x1)—for dressing (non-consumable) use.

  • CANON Typestar 6 Instruction Manual.

PLEASE NOTE:

The CANON Typestar 6 uses CANON IR-50 (also known as Group 410 or IR-50II) thermal ribbon cartridges. Original Canon IR-50 cartridges are no longer manufactured by CANON—however, "new old stock" (unused original cartridges) or compatible replacement cartridges are still available for purchase from online retailers such as eBay and specialized office supply websites.

Alternative Printing Method

As an alternative to using the ink cartridge on standard paper, the CANON Typestar 6 is a thermal typewriter and can print directly onto heat-sensitive thermal fax paper without needing a ribbon cartridge at all. The print quality on thermal paper is typically crisp and clear.
