Description
Circa Late 1990's to Early 2000's
Use Cases:
- Motor Control: This is the most common application. The green button serves as the "Start" or "On" switch (normally open contact), and the red button serves as the "Stop" or "Off" switch (normally closed contact). Pushing the green button activates a motor contactor, and pressing the red button deactivates it, often within a "direct-on-line" starter circuit.
- Machine Operation (Start/Stop): Beyond motors, the box is used in control panels for various types of machinery where a simple start and stop function is needed. Examples include:
- Conveyor belt systems.
- Pumps and fans.
- Lighting systems in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Two-Hand Control Stations: In some safety-critical applications, two separate control boxes might be installed a safe distance apart. Both green buttons (or both red, depending on the machine's operation) must be pressed simultaneously to initiate a dangerous machine cycle, ensuring the operator's hands are safely away from a hazard zone (e.g., in stamping, cutting, or molding machines).
- Manual Control Interface: The box provides a rugged, often waterproof or dustproof, manual interface for operators to interact directly with automated or semi-automated processes when a larger control panel is unnecessary or impractical.
Functional Principle:
The buttons are momentary, meaning they only activate while being pressed and return to their normal state when released. This requires the underlying electrical circuit to use a relay or contactor with a "holding circuit" (latch) to keep the controlled device running after the start button is released.
