Use Case:
The VCP-1000 is a modular communications server designed to manage dial-in access to corporate Local Area Networks (LANs) and connect various systems and peripherals to the network. Key use cases include:
- Modem Pooling: By adding modem line cards, the unit could provide a pool of up to 32 network-based modems in a single chassis, allowing remote users to access the corporate LAN easily and securely.
- Protocol Translation: It is protocol-independent and supports multiple network strategies (LAT, TCP/IP, or dual protocol) through slide-in Network Interface Cards (E-NICs).
- Terminal/Peripheral Server: It connects various user and server interfaces, such as RS-232 and RS-423 ports, to the network.
- Security: It featured a sophisticated dial-back option to provide maximum security for host computers.
