Description
Circa Mid 1990's to Late 1990's (ESTIMATED)
A custom rigged movie prop featuring simulated functionality. The incorporated red and green LED indicators will both illuminate when the adjacent toggle switch is flipped to the "ON" position. Self-powered via an internal battery.
This instrument is a control unit for seismometers/accelerometers used during sensor diagnostics and configuration.
Use Case:
Designed to be used with GURLAP seismic sensors. Its primary functions include:
- Monitoring Sensor Health: The analogue meter displays vital statistics like the vertical (V), north/south (N/S), and east/west (E/W) components of the mass position (acceleration) or velocity outputs.
- Calibration: The "CALIBRATION SIGNAL" inputs (yellow and green banana plugs) allow a technician to inject a known test signal (e.g., a sine wave or step input) into the seismometer's feedback coil to verify its frequency response and sensitivity.
- Mass Centering: The unit provides buttons and an "OFFSET ADJUST" knob to manually "zero" the sensor mass positions, which is critical for proper operation after installation.
- Locking/Unlocking: For some older models, the HCU is used with specific button sequences to remotely lock the internal sensor masses for safe transport or unlock them for normal operation.
NOTE: Near-double available (LED's not rigged for operation).
