Description

Circa 1997

A popular form of removable magnetic storage in the late 1990s, offering significantly higher capacity than the standard floppy disk of the time. Its primary use cases included:

  • Data Backup: The 100MB capacity was enough to back up a typical hard drive from the mid-90s or critical files and documents, providing peace of mind to users.

  • File Transfer and Sharing: The disks were highly portable (fitting in a shirt pocket) and much faster than floppy drives, making them an ideal way to move large files (such as game demos, MP3s, or multimedia presentations) between different computers at home, work, or service bureaus.

  • Hard Disk Expansion: Users could offload large or less frequently accessed files onto Zip disks, effectively expanding their computer's storage space.

  • Archiving: The disks provided a convenient method for archiving old files, e-mail messages, and financial records for long-term storage.
