Description
Circa 1999
A digital weather module designed to display air pressure and weather trends.
Features:
- Pressure Units: Displays barometric pressure in either millibars/hectopascal (mb/hPa) or inches of mercury (inHg).
- Weather Symbols: Uses icons (Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Cloudy, Rainy) to show current weather and upcoming trends.
- Altitude Adjustment: Includes an option to set the height above sea level to ensure accurate local readings.
Basic Operation:
- ALT Λ / ALT V: These buttons on the left are used to adjust the altitude setting. Since air pressure decreases with height, setting your local altitude allows the device to calculate the equivalent sea-level pressure.
- ALT (Top Right): Likely used to enter or confirm the altitude setting mode.
- RESET (Bottom Right): Resets the highest and lowest recorded pressure readings or returns the device to factory settings.
Design Context:
- Modular Series: It was part of the "Weather Station I" modular line, allowing users to combine different units like thermometers and hygrometers onto a single stand.
- Awards: The series is highly regarded for its functional minimalism, a hallmark of Danish modern design.
- Successor: A follow-up "Weather Station II" was later released with minor design updates.
The collection was a collaboration between the studio's founder, Jacob Jensen, and his son, Timothy Jacob Jensen, who had taken over the company in 1990. While the series is often described as "vintage from the 1990s," it remains a modern classic and was produced and sold throughout the early 2000s.
