JVC (22-Inch) Color Video Monitor TM-22U (Analog)

A high-quality 22-inch (diagonal viewable image size) color CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitor designed specifically for journalists and field crews to edit, monitor, and review footage on-location, entirely powered by a battery if necessary. It represents a very specific and crucial era in electronic news gathering (ENG).

I/O Connections:

VTR:

This section is dedicated to connecting a portable video tape recorder(VTR—available separately).

• 8-pin EIAJ Connection (VTR Video/Audio/Power): The EIAJ-8 standard was a common interface on portable 1/2" reel-to-reel and early cassette VTRs (like Sony VO-3800/4800, JVC CR-4700U, etc.). This single cable carried:

• Composite Video In/Out

• Audio In/Out (monaural)

• RCA Jack (VTR Audio) An alternate audio input connection to the proprietary EIAJ-8 cable connection.

• TNC Connector (VTR Video): An alternate video input connection to the proprietary EIAJ-8 cable connection.

Power Supply:

• AC Power Cord Socket: Standard operation from a wall outlet, like a regular studio monitor. This also charges the internal battery.

• Mini-DIN Connection (DC IN 12VDC/Charge): This provides the ability for the monitor to be powered (and its battery charged) from a vehicle's 12V system (via a cigarette lighter adapter) or an external 12V battery belt/pack. This is an essential ENG feature.

• Battery Pack Compartment: Provides portable power with field-replaceable rechargeable batteyr packs (battery type JVC NB-P1).

Line In:

• TNC Connection (Video Line In): Provides connection to a second video source other than the VTR. This would typically be a professional video camera (e.g., one with a TNC output for robustness). This allows for direct camera monitoring while recording or for setting up shots.

• RCA Jack (Audio Line In): Provides audio input.

Outputs:

• TNC Connector (Video Out): This provides the video signal from whichever source is selected to be sent to another device (loop-through output).

• RCA Jack (Audio Out) This provides the audio signal from whichever source is selected to be sent to another device (loop-through output).

PLEASE NOTE: This analog video monitor can be used to display a digital-video source with the use of a digital-to-analog (D-to-A) Video Convertor with the digital source being connected to the input of the unit and the output (now converted to an analog signal) connected to the monitor's TNC "VIDEO IN" connection.
