Description

Circa Late 1970's to Early 1980's (ESTIMATED)

Designed for use with DATA GENERAL Nova and Eclipse minicomputer systems in the late 1970s. Operators used this panel to manually control the physical hard drive of a LYNX 450 Fixed Disk Drive system. Various LED's have been custom rigged to illuminate—with some controllable by the incorporated switches. Powered via 9-volt battery.

Use Case:

Designed for use by field engineers and technicians to manually operate and diagnose the hard disk drive at a low level. The functions allowed for manual control over drive selection, track positioning, head loading, and monitoring of the read/write signals for troubleshooting purposes.

Historical Significance:

This device was current during the era of 8-inch hard drives and is an example of early data storage technology.
