Description
Circa Mid 1990's
The MOTOROLA MicroTAC line an iconic of cellular phones known as the first pocket-sized, "flip" style mobile devices. This model belongs to the "Digital Personal Communicator" (DPC) line, which was a slightly lower-cost alternative to the premium 9800X model that was first introduced.
Use Case:
This phone was designed for personal and professional mobile communication on the first-generation (1G) analog cellular networks, such as AMPS. Its innovative, compact "flip" design allowed it to fit into a shirt pocket, making it significantly more portable than earlier "brick phones". Opening the flip cover raised the microphone closer to the user's mouth and could also be set to automatically answer an incoming call.

- Pioneered the flip design: It introduced the innovative form factor that became the standard for flip phones for over a decade and the model for modern clamshell devices.
- Miniaturization: It was significantly smaller and lighter than its predecessors, such as the DynaTAC, making mobile communication truly portable and pocket-sized for the first time.
- Status Symbol: Initial models were priced at nearly $3,000 USD (over $6,000 in today's dollars), it was a luxury item that quickly became an international status symbol.

- Rechargeable Battery
