Description
Circa
A custom movie prop manufactured by PROPOLOGY.ca featuring simulated functionality. Designed to portray a piece of professional bench-top scanning equipment of fictional design—with multiple possible use cases.
Operational Features:
- Articulated/Adjustable "Sensor Boom"
- Rotary "Power" Switch.
- Illuminated "Power" Indicator.
- Pushbuttons to Adjust "Specimen Stage" Illumination Color and Effects (x3)
- Illuminated "Specimen Stage".
- Long-Life, Internal Battery Power.
Use Cases:
The movable sensor arm over a fixed specimen stage is a common design feature for various real-world light-based analytical instruments. Notionally, it could operate in the following ways:
1. Spectrophotometer
A device that quantifies how much certain wavelengths of light a sample absorbs or reflects. The articulated arm delivers light and houses a detector that measures the "remittance" (reflected light) from a solid sample on the stage.
- Color Analysis: Industrial spectrophotometers are used to scan products to ensure absolute color consistency in manufacturing.
- Chemical Concentration: By measuring the intensity of reflected light at specific wavelengths, it could determine the concentration of chemicals on a surface or within a thin film.
2. Fluorescence Scanner
Another plausible application—given the prop's RGB LED illumination capability of the Specimen Stage—would be in Fluorescent Specimen Scanning.
- The device would shine a specific wavelength (like UV or blue light) to excite fluorescent dyes in a sample.
- The sensor arm would then detect the emitted light, which is a critical technique for DNA and protein analysis in molecular biology.
