Description
Circa Late 1980's to Early 2000's
Use Case:
A mobile telephone handset used in conjunction with a cellular transceiver unit. This type of device was primarily a high-powered, transportable cellular phone system for use in vehicles or carried in a dedicated bag, often by business professionals or individuals who required connectivity in areas with weak signals. It was a precursor to truly handheld mobile phones.
Historical Significance:
A representation of first-generation (1G) analog mobile technology, such as AMPS or ETACS networks, which offered greater range and power (3 watts) than subsequent digital phones. The entire system was large and expensive, a stark contrast to today's compact digital smartphones, and became obsolete with the sunset of analog networks.
