Description

Circa Mid 1970's

Use Case:

This accessory was designed for use with a standard, single-line rotary telephone to manage multiple telephone lines or extensions. The user would depress one of the five buttons to select the desired line for making a call or answering an incoming one.

Historical Significance:

Northern Electric was the primary Canadian manufacturer of telephone equipment for Bell Canada for decades, operating as the Canadian counterpart to Western Electric in the US. This line selector represents a time when expanding telephone functionality in homes and small businesses often required such simple, robust external accessories that were manufactured as part of the broader Bell System family of products.

NOTE: Can be custom rigged so that the line switch buttons illuminate when pressed.
