Description

Circa Early 1990's to Mid 1990's

Use Case:

Designed to act as an automated answering machine for a single analog landline in a home or small office setting. The "Auto-Logic" system referred to its integrated features for call management, including:

  • Dual Micro Cassettes: One micro-cassette was used for the outgoing message (OGM), and the second was used to record incoming messages (ICM), allowing for long recording times.

  • Remote Control: Users could call their home number from any touch-tone phone and enter a code to check messages remotely.

  • 2-Way Record: A button on the console allowed a user to record an active phone conversation with the other party's consent.

  • Message Playback: Controls for Playback, Rewind (REW), Fast Forward (FF), Stop, Erase, and Volume were used to manage stored messages.

Historical Significance:

A representative artifact of the golden age of analog answering machines. Its "Auto-Logic" and "Easa-Phone" branding reflect PANASONIC's emphasis on user-friendly technology during a time of rapid consumer electronics adoption. The device illustrates the transition from bulky, single-cassette machines to more integrated, feature-rich dual micro-cassette systems, before the rise of affordable, integrated digital voicemail systems and widespread mobile phone use made standalone answering machines largely obsolete.
