Use Case:

This device is used to securely attach a pen, pencil, or marker to a stable location, such as a belt, clipboard, toolbox, or whiteboard.

Its core function is to allow the user to pull out the attached writing instrument to a desired length, at which point a locking mechanism engages, and all string tension disappears, allowing for free and untethered writing.

After writing, a simple tug on the instrument releases the lock, and the string automatically retracts the pen back to its base, preventing it from being lost or misplaced.
