Description
Circa Early 2000's
A custom movie prop manufactured by PROPOLOGY.ca featuring simulated functionality.
Designed to portray the exposed top of a buried drum of RDX explosive. Alternately, the lid can be removed from the short section of drum, and installed onto an unaltered drum by removing/reinstalling the incorporated retaining ring. RDX (Research Department Explosive), one of the most powerful military high-explosives.
This is a completely inert replica intended for on-screen motion picture use.
Military & Strategic Use Cases:
- Mass Munitions Filling: Bulk RDX is a primary "filler" for large-scale ordnance, including aerial bombs, torpedoes, and naval depth charges. For example, the famous WWII "Bouncing Bombs" used in the Dambusters Raid each contained over 6,000 lbs of RDX-based mixtures.
- Base Material for Plastic Explosives: RDX is the core energetic ingredient in C-4 (91% RDX) and Semtex. Drums would be found at manufacturing facilities where the raw RDX is stabilized with plasticizers and oils to create these malleable explosives.
- Strategic Stockpiling: Because RDX is highly stable at room temperature and resistant to small arms fire, it is ideal for long-term storage in secure military magazines or underground bunkers, often kept as a raw crystalline powder before being mixed for specific missions.
Industrial & Civil Use Cases:
- Large-Scale Demolition: RDX is used in controlled demolitions to raze massive structures like steel bridges or high-rise buildings. Its high "brisance" (shattering effect) makes it superior for cutting through heavy structural steel.
- Heavy Mining & Quarrying: In the mining industry, RDX-based charges are used for tunnel excavation and mineral extraction, particularly when dealing with extremely hard rock that requires more power than standard commercial dynamite.
- Oil & Gas Exploration: RDX is utilized in the energy sector for seismic exploration and as a component in specialized shaped charges used to perforate well casings deep underground.
NOTE: Incorporated yellow blasting cap wires are removable.
