Description

Circa Late 1990's to Early 2000's

A dual-use mechanical initiator. While it is widely sold for tactical use as a perimeter trip alarm, its design is functionally identical to, and frequently used as, a civilian shock tube initiator.

Function and Classification:

  • Dual-Use Nature: In the civilian world, this is a "cross-over" tool. When used as an alarm, it fires a .209 primer to create a loud report. When used as a shock tube initiator (often called a "NONEL" starter), it uses that same primer to send a high-pressure pyrotechnic pulse down a plastic shock tube to trigger a distant explosive charge.

  • Mechanism: It is a spring-loaded, center-punch firing device. Pulling the pin releases the firing pin to strike a primer seated in the brass base.

  • Target Markets: It serves both the tactical/security market (for perimeter defense) and the professional blasting market (for mining, demolition, and special effects).

Alarm vs. Initiator Use:

Perimeter Trip Alarm:

  • Trigger: Tripwire attached to pull-ring.

  • Load:.209 Shotgun Primer.

  • Output: Loud noise (approx. 140+ dB).

  • Attachment: Mounted to trees/posts via integrated holes.

As Shock Tube Initiator:

  • Trigger: Manual pull by the operator.

  • Load:.209 Shotgun Primer.

  • Output: Pyrotechnic pulse into 3mm shock tube.

  • Attachment: Often handheld or attached to a firing board.
