Professional video editing control unit.
Use Cases:
- Two-Machine Editing: The RM-450/450A was designed to facilitate two-machine editing, specifically controlling a playback VTR (video tape recorder) and a record VTR for "cuts only" edits.
- Precision Editing: It enabled precise synchronized editing, including CTL (control track), Time Code (SMPTE/EBU LTC/VITC), and Relative Time Code (RTC) editing modes.
- Split Editing: The unit supported split editing, allowing separate in-points for video and audio channels (A1, A2) for more refined sound and music edits.
- VTR Control: It offered remote control of basic VTR functions such as PLAY, STILL, FF, REW, STANDBY, EJECT (for 9-pin VTRs), REC, and EDIT.
- Compatibility: The RM-450/450A was compatible with various professional video formats, including U-matic and Betacam SP.
Connectivity:
- 9-pin RS-422 Interface: This was a primary connection for newer, 9-pin equipped Sony VTRs, allowing for both CTL and Time Code-based editing.
- 33-pin Remote Control Interface: The unit also featured 33-pin remote control connectors for direct connection to older 33-pin equipped editing VTRs, such as the Sony VO-5850/5800.
- Mixed Operation: The RM-450 was versatile enough to allow for mixed operation of both 33-pin and 9-pin equipped VTRs.
- Reference Video Input: It included a REF VIDEO IN (BNC) for synchronized operation with an external reference video signal.
- Cue Pulse Output: A CUE OUT (BNC) provided a cue pulse for triggering external equipment with external start capabilities.
