Description
Circa Mid 1990's (ESTIMATED)
Use Case:
A rugged, lightweight, battery-powered data collection terminal designed for batch processing of information in various business settings. It was widely used for:
- Inventory Control: Taking stock of items in warehouses, stockrooms, or retail stores.
- Cycle Counting: Periodically verifying small sections of inventory.
- Sales Order Entry: Used by field sales representatives to record orders.
- Route Accounting: For managing deliveries and tracking inventory on delivery trucks.
- Barcode Scanning: The unit itself is a computer with a keyboard; it connects to an external scanning wand, CCD, or laser scanner via a port to read barcodes. Data is collected and stored internally before being "batched" (transmitted) to a host computer via cable or modem.
The TELLXON model designation "ES" signified a device that utilized a first-class, enterprise grade, wireless network standard of the 1990's that was capable of live, interactive data exchange—a premium feature at the time.
