Description
Circa 2005
Use Case:
A full-featured smartphone and personal digital assistant (PDA) for business users. Running the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, it allowed users to manage email (Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync), edit Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint Mobile), browse the internet using high-speed EV-DO networks and Wi-Fi, and make voice calls. Its main selling points were the integration of a touchscreen interface with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, enabling both tapping with a and typing for heavy data entry.
Historical Significance:
One of the first CDMA devices on the market to run Windows Mobile 5.0 and the first to be released in the United States. It was also notable as one of the first smartphones to feature a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, allowing for a larger screen in a relatively compact form factor. This device represented a critical step in the evolution of smartphones, bridging the gap between traditional PDAs and modern mobile phones by offering a full suite of connectivity options, including EV-DO, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, in a single device.
