Description
Circa Early 2000's
A wireless, battery-operated component of the X10 home automation and security system.
Use Case:
Designed for use with an alarm system to provide immediate emergency notification within a home or small business. Users place these buttons in frequently visited rooms (e.g., bedrooms, bathrooms). In an emergency (such as a break-in or a medical issue), pressing and holding the large red button for at least four seconds sends a Radio Frequency (RF) signal to a main X10 console or transceiver.
Historical Significance:
The X10 system, and components like the Big Red Button, holds historical significance as the first general-purpose home automation networking technology. It was a pioneer in making basic "smart home" functionality—like remote control of lighting and appliances—accessible and relatively inexpensive for the average consumer starting in the late 1970s.
NOTE: 2-Units available.
