Description
Circa mid 1960's to Late 1980's (ESTIMATED)
This panel manages the final sequence of actions leading up to a missile or vehicle launch from a ground control station or bunker. Can be equipment rack or console mounted.
Use Case:
Eight correctly sequenced actions will result in vehicle launch. Each step is acknowledged by a change in indicator color with each button press. Additionally, the next relevant pushbutton in the sequence illuminates or changes color to convey system status, and direct the operator's attention to the next step in the launch sequence.
Historical Significance:
This style of panel represents the crucial, human-controlled interfaces used in early ballistic missile and space launch command centers. The design facilitated the reliable, sequence-driven operations necessary during high-stakes countdowns, ensuring that critical actions were performed in the correct order, often in high-security environments like missile submarines.
