Description
Circa 2008
Use Case:
Allows a single console (consisting of one DVI monitor, one USB keyboard, one USB mouse, speakers, and a microphone) to control up to four different computers. This is ideal for managing multiple systems in a small office/home office (SOHO) environment, server rooms, or industrial settings where space and hardware costs are concerns.
It also features a built-in 2-port USB 2.0 hub, allowing USB peripherals like printers or scanners to be shared among the connected computers. Independent switching allows users to control the KVM, USB, and audio focus on different computers simultaneously.
Historical Significance:
Significant for being one of the first KVM switches on the market to incorporate DVI (Digital Visual Interface) support, allowing for crisp, clean digital video displays at resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 pixels at the time of its release.
Its integration of KVM functionality with a USB hub and audio support represented a "revolutionary direction" in peripheral sharing, eliminating the need for separate hubs and peripheral sharers. This design philosophy set a standard for integrated, multi-functional desktop KVM switches that followed.
