Description

Circa 1961 to 1964

Part of a line of two-way radios that were used primarily for business and public safety communications during the 1960s such as the Fire, Police and Ambulance services of that period.

Use Case:

Designed for commercial and organizational two-way radio communication, typically in vehicles, allowing personnel in the field to coordinate with a base station.

Historical Significance:

Significant primarily as a commercial failure in the marketplace, largely because of performance issues and reliability concerns with its vacuum tubes.

  • Technological Context: It represents a transitional period in radio technology, using tubes just as the industry was shifting rapidly toward more reliable and compact solid-state (transistorized) designs.

  • Design Notes: Its unique "convertible-mount" design allowed the control head with the speaker to be attached directly to the main radio chassis or mounted remotely via an extension cable, offering installation flexibility. Few of these units have survived, making them relatively rare today.
