Description

Circa 2002

Sold both as a standalone product and bundled with specific peripherals under model numbers such as GP110, GP1000-001, and AS00216 in a kit. It is a system comprising the mouse itself, a charging cradle, an AC adapter, and an RF receiver.

Use Case:

Dual-function: operating as a standard, high-precision optical desktop mouse, but it also functions as an "air mouse" using patented gyroscopic technology. This "in-air" capability allows users to control the cursor with natural hand movements while away from a surface, making it ideal for presentations, HTPC (Home Theater PC) control, gaming, and general computing where freedom of movement is desired. The system features a powerful 30-foot (9.14m) radio frequency (RF) range and includes rechargeable NiMH batteries with a convenient charging cradle.

Historical Significance:

Historically significant as a pioneer in motion-sensing computer input devices, predating the mainstream popularity of similar technology in game consoles like the Nintendo Wii Remote. It was one of the first commercially successful products to integrate gyroscopic sensors into a computer mouse, offering a revolutionary way to interact with a PC away from a desk.

This innovation allowed for cursor control with natural wrist movements, a substantial change from traditional pointing devices, and established the "air mouse" category of peripherals that continues to be used today for presentations and media control.
