Description
Circa 2008
Use Case:
Provides a compact yet feature-rich office solution that combined printing, scanning, copying, and faxing functions. Key features supporting this use case included:
- Connectivity: Built-in 802.11b/g wireless and Ethernet networking allowed the device to be easily shared among multiple computers.
- Efficiency: An integrated automatic duplexer allowed for two-sided printing to save paper, and a 25-page automatic document feeder (ADF) streamlined multi-page scanning, faxing, and copying jobs.
- PC-Free Operation: A 2.4-inch color LCD display and integrated memory card reader/PictBridge port allowed users to print photos or documents directly from digital cameras, memory cards, or USB flash drives without a PC.
Historical Significance:
Significant for bundling a comprehensive set of "professional" features (wireless/Ethernet networking, automatic duplexing, and ADF) into an affordable inkjet package for the SOHO market. At the time, including both wireless connectivity and two-sided printing in this class of device was a relatively unique offering. It also featured "evercolor²" inks, designed to be fade, humidity, highlighter, and water-resistant, appealing to both business document archival and photo printing needs.
