Description

Circa 1985

Use Case:

Designed to provide a fast and convenient way to test the basic functions of private telephones and answering machines without needing the central office (CO) line or expensive professional equipment. It performs multiple diagnostic functions:

  • Cord Test: Checks the continuity of line cords and handset cords.

  • Loop Test: Verifies the phone's switch-hook impedance (resistance) is within the acceptable range for a central office connection.

  • Dial Test: Checks the accuracy of both touch-tone (DTMF) and rotary pulse dialing speed/ratio.

  • Ringer Test: Simulates the ringing voltage (45V or 90V RMS) to ensure the phone's ringer works.

  • Transmit/Receive Test: Checks the audio levels sent and received by the handset to ensure proper microphone and speaker function.

  • Answering Device Test: The AUX jack allowed testing of external devices like answering machines or fax machines.

Motion Picture & Television Production:

Used by Prop Departments to trigger phone ring tones and enable direct talk-paths. This allows actors on a set to hear scripted dialogue from other actors off-screen and also provide the ability to ring a phone on-camera as required.

Included Accessories:

  • Telephone Extension Line Supply Reel (additional reels available separately).

NOTE: An identical unit bundled with different accessories is available.
