Description
Circa mid 1970's to Mid 1980's
Use Case:
For testing and troubleshooting traditional analog phone lines. This unit allowed a person to manually generate a pulse-dial signal and control the line state using a standard interface (the rotary dial and switches) without needing a full, traditional phone set.
Key Features:
- Rotary Dial: Generates "dial pulses" needed to interact with older, pulse-dial systems.
- "Dial-Pulse Output": This label clearly indicates the unit's function is to generate pulse signals for testing purposes. The dual jacks suggest connectivity to test equipment or different line types.
- "Hook Switch" and "Line Switch": These controls allow a technician to manually simulate lifting the handset (going "off-hook") and managing the line state, which is crucial for testing various line conditions like dial tone detection and call termination.
Control Operation:
- "LINE SWITCH" - Opens and closes the incoming telephone line connection.
- "HOOK SWITCH" - Used to "hang-up" (disconnect) from a telephone connection.
- "DIAL-PULSE OUTPUT" - Pulse-dial signal output to telephone line.
