Description

Circa Early 1990's to Early 2000's

A safety and control panel for use by qualified elevator technicians in the US and Canada.

Use Case:

Activating the "service" mode removes the car from normal passenger operation. The "up" and "down" buttons are used to manually "jog" or move the elevator car at a slow, restricted speed while the technician is performing maintenance on top of the car or inspecting the shaft. The red "stop" button immediately cuts power to the drive motor as an emergency safety feature. The standard 120V, 15A outlet allows the technician to power tools or task lighting.

Historical Significance:

This panel is a standard piece of safety equipment that has been required for decades. Its presence ensures that maintenance can be performed safely by giving the technician direct, immediate control over the car's movement and emergency stop functions during inspection tasks.
