Description

Circa Early 2000's

A high-intensity discharge (HID) dive light designed for primary underwater use. While primarily a diving tool, its rugged construction makes it suitable for several specific use cases:

1. Primary Night Diving

This is the light's core purpose. The 450-lumen HID beam is designed to pierce through "milky" or sediment-heavy water, providing a daylight-balanced (6000°K) beam that restores natural colors to reefs and marine life at depths where red light is typically lost.

2. Underwater Videography & Photography

Because HID lamps provide a high color-rendering index similar to sunlight, this light was a favorite for early underwater videographers. Some came with snap-on wide-angle filters (30-40 degrees) to soften and spread the beam, preventing "hot spots" in camera frames.

3. Wreck and Cave Exploration

The non-corroding ABS body and heavy-duty rubber lens guard are built to withstand impacts against rock or metal. The locking switch is a critical safety feature here, ensuring the light won't accidentally turn off if bumped or turn on in a gear bag and overheat.

4. Search and Recovery

Public safety divers and SAR teams use this light because of its reliability and the pistol grip design, which allows for easy handling while wearing thick neoprene or drysuit gloves.

5. Technical Deck/All-Weather Use

While it is water-cooled (meaning it is best used submerged to prevent the HID bulb from overheating during long burns), its IP68-style ruggedness makes it an excellent high-power spotlight for use on boats in heavy rain, spray, or fog where standard flashlights might fail.
